Sample Resume of Fresh Graduate Without Experience in Nigeria

Your resume can either break or make your role application. Whatever your need might be, either to tweak your already existing resume or you need to write a new one. However, we will be providing you with a template that would help your resume stand out above the crowd.

This is because only the right resume format can catch the attention of recruiters almost immediately and increases your chances as the best candidate for the role or job.

More so, it will reduce the spotlight on features of your career that you would choose not to bring to the fore.

Types of Resume Format

There are primarily three types or styles of a professional resume format, they include:

  • Chronological
  • Functional
  • Combination

Note that every one of these formats is a workable template that can be tweaked and used by you when writing your resume to suit your need.

Choosing A Resume Format

It is quite easy to recognize and identify the right kind of resume format that will work best for you as one will work better than others depending on your need.

This means that if you have a gap of non-working years due to the inability to secure a job in those years, then a functional resume format that highlights your skills will be the best one to go with.

In the same vein, if you have racked up the years progressively as job experience in one form or the other, then a chronological or combination resume format would be best for you.

The type of career choice, job experience, and skill can also influence the type of resume format that would be used.

You can also create multiple copies of your resume in different formats so as to allow you the flexibility of marketing your credentials swiftly.

Always remember that a resume should not be more than one page length, at most two-page length for top administrative levels.

  • Chronological Resume Format

The most popular form of resume format is the chronological format. Using this type of format, you will have to write out your job history, starting with your most recent in a reverse chronological manner.

After which, you will then add your educational qualifications and skills. The advantage of this type of resume is that it brings to the fore a linear progression in your career.

This means that if you decided to follow one career path, the chronological format would enable you to show how far you have progressed. It is a major standard for civil service and administrative roles.

  • Functional Resume Format

The functional resume format is highly oriented around an applicant’s skills and qualifications.

In such a resume format, rather than writing about work experience, it is made up of multiple skillsets and abilities. The functional resume format is best for people with not so impressive job history or people whose previous jobs are not relevant to the current role being sought after.

Using this type of resume format would be best. You will have to list your skills first, then write about short experiences where such skill was used, and always include your educational qualifications or professional certifications.

  • Combination Resume Format

The combination resume format is actually a mix or hybrid of the chronological and functional resume formats.

It shows a chronological order of an applicant’s job history while reserving a section that focuses on the applicant’s skill set and credentials—this type of format displays to recruiters both your skills and experience.

It is a great format choice if you are keen on shifting across career lines or if you worked in different places before but have consistent job experience.

If you are writing a resume using this format, you will have to begin a new section where you list your skills and another section that talks about your job experience, followed by your credentials.

How To Write A Resume

Over the years, social research has shown us that employers spend only about 10-15 seconds skimming through a resume before dropping it in the “interview” or “reject” file.

This is because many people would prefer to highlight their best and most relevant skills for the job at the top of their resume.  The steps to writing your resume include:

  • Headline

A headline on a resume or a resume title is a short sentence that summarises why you are the best candidate. It is usually affixed close to the top of your resume.

Headlines are regularly used by a lot of candidates to highlight their best features and experience.

  • Profile

A resume profile is a short statement of about three to four sentences that are used to highlight the skills and experiences that make you a worthy applicant.

  • Resume With Headline and Profile

This type of resume includes both the headline and profile, thus providing the recruiter with more information about you, the applicant.

  • A Resume With Summary Statement

If you never knew, the resume with a summary statement revolves around a short paragraph or two. Interestingly, it is a short list of some of your best qualifications for the job role. It is popularly referred to as a summary of qualifications.

  • Resume With Branding Statement

A resume with a branding statement is a short, catchy statement, usually fifteen words or fewer, that highlights what you have to bring to the table to an organization.

  • Resume With Objective

A resume with an objective is a one to two-sentence description of yourself as a potential applicant and your goal in a particular role.

Most recruiters, however, seem to prefer a resume profile or summary over a resume objective, yet it is still up to you to decide which format is best for you.

Conclusion

In writing an effective resume, it is best to highlight your strengths, either through your job experience or credential wise.

This is due to the fact that it would assist you in knowing all that is best for you. It would be best if you remembered to keep it concise and precise. More so, highlight your most relevant and important aspect first to catch the attention of the recruiters.

When you are done writing, ensure that you read through your resume for spell checks and grammar errors. You can pass the resume to a trusted friend to proofread as well. This is done to avoid mistakes and the recruiters not having a bad impression of you.
